Madison Square Garden

New York, New York

As part of a major renovation effort of New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden, 3D laser scanning techniques were employed to capture congested overhead utilities and structural supports. The resulting data supported the task of replacing main electrical feeds in a congested built environment. Additionally, we generated a 3D CAD model that detailed existing conditions and provided clash detection and design verification.

The high level of detail provided accurate as-built information and design visualization. Comprehensive 3D information allowed for interference detection during the design phase, lowering the cost of retrofitting. By using laser scan data to construct a 3D CAD model, mechanical consultants identified conflicts on obstructed routing of upgraded utilities, freeing interference with existing conduits, beams, piping and HVAC supply/exhaust.
