Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute

Gloucester, Massachusetts

Located in Gloucester’s historic seaport, the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) was the world’s first research facility dedicated to marine genomics. The Institute provides innovative research and educational outreach to address critical challenges facing ocean environments and human health.

Meridian Associates provided site design and engineering consulting services to the design-builder, Windover Development, to repurpose a commercial wharf and boatyard to develop the headquarters facility for the Institute. We leveraged our project experiences working with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Wetlands and Waterways Division in the re-design of the site and navigation through the entitlement process, securing the Waterways Chapter 91 License in the process for the waterfront property change of use to establishing the GMGI facility as allowable use for the redevelopment.
